Summer Has Arrived

Beachgoers are finding the refreshingly cool waters are warming comfortably (70s).

Summer has arrived. Every week flows into the next like the warm weather and the flood of events and activities that make up a new season in the Adirondacks. Last week, we celebrated Wounded Warriors with an American Legion golf tournament and the Adirondack Freedom March, organized by two local Norwich University students. Next, it’s the season’s first Farmer’s Market and the free Sunday Lakefront Concert Series.

Sunday Concerts on the Old Forge Lakefront are free,
with plenty of boat parking and lawn space available.

The strength of community shows through with the Kiwanis Paddle Classic and the continuing fundraising efforts to help the Strand Theatre survive the mandatory, costly conversion to digital projection. There is plenty of water from Spring rains, and that’s good, because we’re all about water.

Home base for all enjoying the Adirondack waters.

Our natural resources have always been the foundation of recreation here, and water is our most renewable resource. As the waterways heat up, so does activity in the Adirondack Summer.

Launching from Old Forge

Old Forge; Adirondack Base Camp... it means different things to different people, and Old Forge appeals to all of them. Arrive, unpack, relax, enjoy.

Like these folks who were cruising Main Street in the Classic Car Show Parade last evening. The rolling display kicked off the annual Father's Day weekend show, going on right now at the Hiltebrandt Rec Center on North Street.

This morning, people enjoyed the Camp Mark VII 10k Run and 5k Run/Walk from the Lakefront to the Moose River.

Tomorrow, June 16th is Leap Day... happens every year on Fathers Day. This year is the 40th anniversary of the Fathers Day Frog Jumping Contest. Mark Twain would be proud. (He said,"Man is the only animal that blushes, or needs to.") The little web-footed athletes are the stars, aided by their young trainers, and the dads share the spotlight in the Ugly Tie Contest. Considered hokey by a few, celebrated as pure small-town fun by most, it's just a goofy good time for all.

Old Forge is a vacation base. From here, enjoy everything the Adirondacks have to offer, both nearby and throughout the Park... it's all within easy reach.

Now that we've launched our blog, we'll focus on the wide variety of things that make up our Adirondack personality, and the operative part of that word is personal. Folks are only strangers here when they first arrive.
