Hikers on Bald Mountain

Colors are still impressive close up (along the roadways and village streets), although recent storms have blown down many leaves. Colors are fading and panoramic views are less impressive. Columbus Day is the last day to ride the McCauley Mountain Scenic Chairlift and get the views overlooking the Fulton Chain of Lakes to the High Peak Region.

Route 28

Unseasonably warm and dry fall weather is very pleasant for everyone. Hikers, bikers, and paddlers have great conditions to extend their seasons. Road bike routes along NYS Route 28 and the South Shore Road are very popular, and mountain bikers have great cruising on the TOBIE Trail between Rondaxe and Eagle Bay. Speaking of Eagle Bay, bikers, hikers and others can tour the backcountry trails on horseback with Adirondack Saddle Tours.

The new TOBIE Trail Bridge over the Moose River was hoisted into position this week. It connects the newly completed portion of the TOBIE Trail from the Thendara Railroad Station, up Fulton Street and along Route 28 to Hemlock Street, and across the new bridge to Railroad Ave. That portion of the TOBIE Trail will be open to pedestrians and non-motorized vehicles.

As always, indoor venues remain open and ready for patrons. VIEW, the Goodsell Museum, the Old Forge Library, as well as the many galleries, shops, restaurants, and lodging facilities in the area provide services to all enjoying the remarkable fall weather.
